BORACAY BRIEFS:
BFI Launches Zero Empty Mineral Water
Bottle project
BFI is set to launch its Zero Empty Mineral Bottle Project on November
28. Four mineral water bottling companies - Viva, First, Nature
Spring and Hidden Spring - have confirmed their participation in
this buy-back scheme. Bottles will be redeemed every Saturday, from
8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the BFI Eco-shed
along the main road.
First Boracay Sportclimbing
Competition Set
The First Boracay Sportclimbing
Competition is set on November 28, 29 and 30 at the Boracay Beach
and Yacht Club. This event will complete Leg 2 of the 5th National
Sportclimbing Competition Circuit which has been done around the
country including Iloilo and Bacolod Cities. The competition, sponsored
by the Department of Tourism and Magsaysay Travel and Tours is being
organized by Outdoor Ventures.
Special Task Force to
"Restore Order"
in Boracay
Created by Executive Order No. 30, the Municipal Task Force on Tourism
and the Environment is mandated to assist in the implementation of
laws and ordinances pertaining to environmental protection and tourism
and is headed by Vice-Mayor Ciceron Cawaling. Activated only last
October 15, the task force has already achieved a lot. The most impressive
is the implementation of the 15-meter setback for motorboats. Where
boats used to crowd out the swimmers near the shore, they are now
anchored farther out to sea, along the red buoys provided by the Department
of Tourism. A daily inspection of the shoreline during which violators
are either warned or fined, depending on the frequency of their offenses,
is also being done. The Task Force is also set to implement ordinances
on stray animals, littering and garbage segregation.
Boracay Destination Logo
Launched
Boracay's destination logo formally debuted November 13 at the 9th
Philippine Travel Mart in Manila. The logo combined elements to represent
the key ingredients of Boracay - sun, fun, sand and sea. The Sun and
Fun are symbolized by the mascot with the cute hat. The Sand is symbolized
by the color beige and the Sea is symbolized by the waves. Plans are
understudy to use the logo for merchandising products such as t-shirts,
caps, beach towels and other souvenir items.
