DOT-CUI evaluate project
in Boracay
The Canada-Philippines Cooperative Program on Sustainable
Development for Boracay Island was evaluated by stakeholders, the Department
of Tourism and members of the Canadian Urban Institute last December 17-19.
Two meetings were held at the Seawind Resort with the private sectors,
local government officials and members of the LGU in Malay. Participants
in both meetings stressed their belief that the DOT-CUI initiatives have
been successful to date and there is a strong need for the program to continue
in the island. Plans for more capability- building workshops, environmental
monitoring and organizational reviews are under way. Outcomes of these
activities will also help support proposals which will be drafted for the
continuation of the program in the Island
for the remainder of 1999.
